Entry 1: Why a Documentary?

So the years have flown by and now it's my turn to produce a Final Major Project! I have chosen to do a video documentary and I thought in my first post on this blog I'd explain why.

I have always been a creative person whether that was with words, a paintbrush or designing miniature outfits out of paper as a child for my little paper dolls. The greatest joys in my heart are most often fed through visual stimulants.

As I have grown older and immersed myself in the world of Journalism for my degree, I have learnt that the way I connect most deeply with the world around me is through visual story telling. I always find myself drawn to stories that are heavy with imagery whether it be beautiful or heart wrenching.

Because of this it makes sense that I would love to watch documentaries. As much as I enjoy the beauty of writing and the way stories can so eloquently be told, for me the old saying that a picture can tell a thousand words always rings true and it is when I am faced with imagery from a place that I may never have seen before or even new existed that I really connect with a story.

Thats why I have chosen to produce a documentary. Although one of the more demanding and challenging choices, I am hoping it will ultimately be the most rewarding.

I am so excited to be documenting this journey and I really hope you enjoy coming on it with me!
