In the summer before I embarked on my degree in multi-media Journalism we were asked to write down why we wanted to be a Journalist. A quote from my response was this;

“To me a Journalist is someone who delves deep into an untold story and in doing so pieces together a narrative that can then be shared with the world. Whether that be a story of hope or sorrow it’s our job as Journalists to listen to the world around us, absorb everything we see and then either display it as a beacon of the beauty of life or reveal an atrocity to bring about change.’’

Through a great adventure, a few tears in the editing process and sheer determination to create something I am proud of, I believe I fulfilled the high standards that my younger self set.

The Girls of Baale Mane is the story of a home for girls in Bangalore India and the work they do. Although the charity is only home to 40 girls currently, it represents a much wider issue highlighted by the UN’s report that India is one of the most dangerous places to be a girl child with females almost twice as likely to die before the age of five.

My hope is that this documentary touches the heart of those who watch it and through the joy and happiness portrayed ignites a spark in the hearts of others to go out and make the world a better place.

Thank you
